I’m all about celebrating holidays in my science

I’m all about celebrating holidays in my science classroom 🎃

But I also know all about that added pressure to keep on pace and hit all those middle school science standards

So, I figured out a way to do both!

These Halloween science stations are the perfect way to review a bunch of science content but with a spooky twist!

I took a bunch of Halloween themes, tied them
Into earth space, life science and physical science standards and BAM, the stations were born.

Each station can be completed in 6-10 minutes so they can be done in 1-2 class periods.

They’re low prep, for perfectly in an interactive science notebook and there’s even a digital version. 👻

Covers topics like:
🌖 Moon phases
👹 Genetics
🏔️ Weathering
🪨 Rock cycle
🕷️ Ecology
🍬 Changes in matter
🎃 Weight, Mass
And more!

I’ve always printed my guided notes this way and it makes it so easy for my students to fill in and then glue into their notebooks!

I print them this way using Adobe. You can do this with the free version too!

When you go to print, click on “booklet” so that your notes come out like this. 📓

Such a simple step that makes a HUGE difference in my middle school science interactive notebooks. 📓

I know cardstock would work better but I don’t want to buy cardstock for the unit tabs because that’s wayyyy too expensive so I used colored paper instead.

You can also have students color the tabs themselves if you need to use plain copy paper.

Anyway, having students add a piece of tape to the tabs of their interactive science notebook makes them last sooooo much longer.

I’m telling you, this even holds up against the kids who just throw their notebooks into their backpacks every day without a single care in the world.

Your interactive science notebook unit tabs don’t have to be just tabs, ya know. 📓

Turn them into something your students can actually use and refer to!

This year, I’m using them as vocabulary pages and a place to display objectives for the unit.

Your middle science students could probably use a little refresher on scientific variables…

I know mine definitely needed one.

Often, they really struggle with identifying the independent variable, dependent variable and controlled variable in an experiment.

Which becomes a recurring issue when we do labs 😅

And because I know it comes up on standardized tests, I always take some time to review it at random times throughout the year.

This is one of the activities I love to use in the beginning of the year. It included a reading, practice scenario-based questions and it fits perfectly in an interactive science notebook which means they can always reference back to it!

Did I mention there’s a Google slides and print version?? 💻 📓

Best part is that it’s freeeeee!

My favorite classroom management + Decor combo wil

My favorite classroom management + Decor combo will always be agenda slides.

I change mine out for seasons, holidays and just when I want to switch things up.

Not only do they add a little decor to my classroom but they also:
🍁 keep my students organized
🍁 keep my students informed about what is going on in class
🍁 give me a place to project my warm up, due dates, important reminders and objectives
🍁 are so easy to change every day

I’ll be using these fall ones for a weeks until I switch up to my Halloween ones!
