I’m still that person. But I got so tired of forg

I’m still that person.

But I got so tired of forgetting all the time that I just made my middle school science warm ups for the whole year so that those “oh crap, I forgot about the warm up!” days weren’t as stressful.

Trust me, I have a lot of those 😅

I can deal with forgetting to add it into a slide but forgetting and then having to come up with a question right as the bell is about to ring?! Nah, I can’t do all that anymore. 🤪

I created spiral review warm ups that last the ENTIRE year. 45 weeks worth. 225 questions.

They cover it ALL. These are my secret weapon for standardized test review.

Florida science standards, TEKS and NGSS standards.

I print two weeks at a time so that they are all ready to go and students can take them
Out as soon as class begins.

“Mrs. Rudolph, we learn variables every year in science! Why are we doing it again?!”

That’s when I start asking some practice questions, watch them get independent and dependent variables confused, and then remind them that this is the reason why we need a review 💁🏼‍♀️

I give them this quick activity, do it as a class and then BOOM. They’ve got it!

Takes all of 20 minutes and makes a huge difference when reviewing scientific method and scientific investigations.

Adding a little personality to interactive science

Adding a little personality to interactive science notebooks can go a long way.

My middle school students were emotionally invested in the aesthetic of their notebook covers.

They colored them, made them their own and added to them throughout the year.

Never mind the fact that about 20% of them had “67” written on them last August 😅

Making them their own made them sooooo much easier for students to find in the classroom at the beginning of class and so much easier for me to grade since their name was right on the cover.

To those of you out there still teaching and count

To those of you out there still teaching and counting the days until break, it’s almost here!

You’ll be living the life you see other teachers on break living soon. 🏖️

And we all know what those last few weeks and days feel like leading up until summer break.

A lot of questioning yourself

“What the heck am I gonna do with these kids???”

You don’t want to assign a big project.
You can’t just pop a movie in.
It’s too early to stop the educational stuff.
Admin wants you to keep teaching.
You want to keep it low prep so you can finish up everything you need to do before break.

These stations are a life saver. They get your middle school students up and moving to get rid of some of that excited energy AND they’re learning.

Each station has a summer theme attached to a science standard.

Earth science, life science, physical science, space, etc. it’s all there for you.

Let me start by saying this is not the admin I hav

Let me start by saying this is not the admin I have at my school thankfully! They’d be more likely to join in on the fun!

But sometimes we have admin that wants it be 100% educational until, and on, the very last day of school.

I’ve been there and this lab was she perfect way to celebrate the end of the year, have fun, and keep it educational!

This is cream lab is a ton of fun and middle school science students do learn a lot from it!

🍦 kinetic theory of matter
🍦 states of matter
🍦 particle motion

I ask my middle school students to bring in their favorite toppings to share and it turns into an educational ice cream party. 🎉

See what I did there? 😉

Some tips:
1. Give students gloves for the shaking part. It can get cold!
2. Line your lab tables with garbage bags
3. Embrace the mess and the fun!
