States of Matter and Thermal Energy Editable Ice Cream in a Bag Lab

Description

Teach and review changes in states of matter and thermal energy with this edible food lab! Your students will love making their own ice cream in a bag and it will really get them thinking about the thermal energy transfer going on in the process! Students can use a standard lab report or the claim, evidence, reasoning (CER) template to complete the activity.

Students will need to draw particle motion changes, identify how thermal energy is gained or lost in the process of making ice cream and how the rock salt plays a role in making the ice cream thicken.
