Some of the biggest changes i’ve had to get used t

Some of the biggest changes i’ve had to get used to at my new school was having to share a laptop cart with another teacher AND having copy limits each month.

So this is how I adapted!

Having these copies of notes has been so incredibly helpful. Not only is it easy for my students to keep up while I’m going over slides, but it’s also

✏️ been helpful to keep them at the lab tables for the duration of the unit so students can reference them

✏️ are very helpful for my students who have accommodations or need the notes on hand

✏️ great for the students to use even when they forget their notebook at home or in their locker

Students grab for those notes and reference them all the time!

I definitely recommend trying this out if you present slides to your middle school science students for their notes!

Not gonna lie… the first 5 minutes of class used to feel like herding caffeinated squirrels.

Now?
Students walk in, grab their notebook, and start their daily science warm-up without me saying a word.

And while they’re working, I’m actually able to:
✏️ take attendance
✏️ answer a quick student question
✏️ pull up today’s slides
✏️ breathe for half a second

The real magic, though, is what the warm-ups do for students.

Instead of multiple choice questions, my warm-ups:

ask students to explain their thinking

practice writing in science (without a full lab report)

show me exactly who gets it… and who needs a little extra help

And because we use the same template every day?
📓 Students keep them organized
📓 They double as built-in study guides
📓 Test review = flipping back, not panic cramming

No extra prep.
No daily copies.
No “wait… what are we doing?” questions.

Just consistent, low-stress structure that makes the rest of the class period smoother.

One small change that makes a BIG difference in my classroom are my daily agenda slides. 
Students walk in knowing exactly what to do. Warm-ups are ready. Objectives are clear. 
Admin can pop in and instantly know what we’re working on without having to interrupt the lesson.

They lower student anxiety, keeps me on track, and makes transitions smoother all period long.
 Plus… changing the slides to match each science unit? Instant student buy-in. Plus, I even get excited to change my slides up!

My go to activity before I teach cells or human body systems is this levels of organization activity ⚛️🫀👩

This helps clear up any confusion about how cells build to create tissues, tissues to organs, organs to organ systems and organ systems to organisms.

This resource even goes beyond those concepts to include atoms, populations and ecosystems to give students an even greater understanding.

Students keep this in their interactive science notebooks and is always a great reference to go look back at during many of our life science units!

Tomorrow is our science INB set up day in my classes 🎉

When I tell you these interactive science notebook covers last the ENTIRE school year, I mean it. 👌
