My go to activity before I teach cells or human body systems is this levels of organization activity ⚛️🫀👩

This helps clear up any confusion about how cells build to create tissues, tissues to organs, organs to organ systems and organ systems to organisms.

This resource even goes beyond those concepts to include atoms, populations and ecosystems to give students an even greater understanding.

Students keep this in their interactive science notebooks and is always a great reference to go look back at during many of our life science units!

Tomorrow is our science INB set up day in my classes 🎉

When I tell you these interactive science notebook covers last the ENTIRE school year, I mean it. 👌

BTS is a crazy time but these essentials make it go sooooo much smoother!

🧪 back to school stations help me get a ton done in 1-2 class periods. We do group challenges, review the syllabus, make a map of the science classroom, review lab equipment, I learn about my students and so much more!

🧪 my syllabus helps me get all that important info out to my students/parents in a digestible way that isn’t overwhelming.

🧪 my interactive notebook set up has everything I need to get my science INB started! Covers, table of contents, reflection pages, learning progression scales, assessment trackers, divider tabs and more.

One of my favorite classroom management strategies

One of my favorite classroom management strategies is one that also happens to double as decor 😜

Since I’ve started using agenda slides in my science class, the game has completely changed.

🧪 my students know what to expect for the period
Science my students can walk in the room and immediately begin working on their warm up
🧪 my students are working as soon as the bell rings to start class, not sharing snacks or gossiping about who is dating who
🧪 nobody asks me “what are we doing today???”
🧪 I can take attendance in peace
🧪 I can communicate a ton of info on one slide

Daily agenda slides give me so much flexibility and allow me to present important info to my students in a digestible way that is pleasing to the eye. Students always get excited when they see a new slide.

Admin also loves to see them since I add upcoming test reminders, warm ups and my objectives on them. 💪🏻

Not only are we getting things done on the first d

Not only are we getting things done on the first days of school, but we are having fun too! 🎉

I’m not talking the whole period. Nobody wants to be talked at all day anyway. I let the students figure out what’s important in my middle school science class and then review it briefly each day until our routines are set.

While students complete the stations
✔️ students are working in small groups with their peers ✔️ students are learning about how the class works, including the process for doing stations ✔️ I am walking around the room, talking to the students and getting to know them
✔️ I am learning about how students work together.
✔️ I’m watching students have a memorable first day of school experience

I’m getting a ton accomplished, the students are getting a lot accomplished and the experience is a memorable one.

Best part? I’m not going home completely exhausted and I still have my voice by the end of the day. 😁
