Need to introduce the scientific method to your middle school earth space, life science or physical science class? This scientific method bundle contains a PowerPoint, Guided Notes, Assessment, self-grading task cards, choice board, warm ups, labs and digital interactive lessons that can be used with Google slides or Google forms!
Content covered:
⭐ Experiments vs Observations
⭐ Creating a Hypothesis
⭐ Variables (Independent, Dependent, Constant)
⭐ Data (qualitative vs quantitative)
⭐ Scientific Method Steps
⭐ Repetition vs. Replication
This bundle includes:
1. PowerPoint Lesson, Guided Notes and Assessment
Do you need a resource to introduce scientific method, scientific investigations and inquiry? This resource contains a PowerPoint with guided notes and an assessment that all tie together. The PowerPoint and assessment are also available in Google Slides which make this a perfect digital resource for online learning!
The PowerPoint is broken up into 3 different parts:
❔ Engage: This is a question that is used to get students thinking and engaged before the lesson begins. They answer the question in their guided notes.
☑ Checkpoints: These are questions throughout the lesson that assess what students are learning as they go through. The student’s answer these questions in their guided notes. Answer key is included in the PowerPoint.
↵ Bringing it Back: This final question wraps up the lesson by tying student’s new knowledge with the engagement piece.
A link for the Google Slides version is included in the resource.
The PowerPoint is editable. The titles, images and clip art are not editable.
Guided Notes:
The guided notes follow along with the lesson. This allows the students to go through the lesson with the class as the teacher goes through the slides or they can fill it out independently if they are using the PowerPoint digitally. All the text aside from the title and cover page are editable.
Includes two cover pages for interactive notebook booklets. One in color and one in black and white.
*There is no answer key for the guided notes as it is all in the PowerPoint lesson. There is no Google Slides or digital option for the guided notes.
Assessment:
The assessment contains 20 questions with a mix of vocabulary matching, short answer and multiple choice questions. An answer key is included. Everything is editable except for the title and any included clip art lip art.
A Google Slides version is included. The link is in the resource.
2. Warm Ups
4 weeks of editable warm up slides, digital or print versions are perfect for the scientific method unit in your classroom with no prep! Everything is also available in the resource for online learning with digital versions in google slides.
Included in this resource:
✅ 4 weeks of warm ups (20 total).
✅ 3 editable templates to fit the needs of you and your students
✅ PowerPoint Slides with the questions to project for your students
✅ Answer key
3. Task Cards
These 24 scientific method, scientific investigations and inquiry task cards can be used in a classroom or digitally for online learning through Google Forms with no prep and self grading! They can be easily printed, cut and laminated for use in the classroom with a ready-to-print student answer sheet.
The link for Google Forms is available in the resource as well as an answer key.
Task cards can be printed 1 per page or 4 per page. The answer sheet can be printed 1 per page or 2 per page to save paper. I typically print 2 per page so they’re perfect for gluing into interactive science notebooks.
The text is editable in each task card but the titles and clip art are not editable. The task cards are images in google forms so they are not editable if you are using the digital option.
4. Digital Google Slides and Print Activities
This is a print and digital resource that uses Google Slides. There are 6 interactive activities to review scientific investigations and the scientific method.
Students will review vocabulary, real-world examples, independent and dependent variables and design a quick investigation.
The activities include either drag and drop or short answer text. Watch the preview video to get a better idea of how each slide works.
The slides are not editable. Answer key is included in the PDF as well as the Google Slides link.
5. Ball Bounce Lab
This is a simple, quick lab used to go over scientific method, investigations and inquiry. Students will test to see which ball has the highest rebound height. They will need a meter stick, tennis ball, bouncing ball and a golf ball.
This can be printed so that there are two to one page to save paper!
Students will:
⭐ Create a hypothesis
⭐ Gather data
⭐ Graph data
⭐ Draw conclusions
⭐ Review the importance of repetition within an experiment
6. Alka-Seltzer Lab
This can be used as a quick, hands-on lab activity to review the scientific method. Students will use the scientific method to determine how quickly an evervescent/Alka-Seltzer will dissolve in white vinegar, salt water and tap water.
Students will be able to:
⭐ Create a hypothesis
⭐ Gather and record data
⭐ Analyze data
⭐ Draw conclusions
7. Choice Board
Students have options in how they apply their knowledge of scientific method, investigations and inquiry through choice. There is differentiation with the activities so students can have autonomy with their learning and presentation of knowledge.
This choice board is editable to suit the needs of you and your students. Students can also submit most of the activities digitally through Google Classroom or Canvas. The title and clip art are not editable.
General teacher directions and the choice board are included in PowerPoint format for easy editing. There are no rubrics included within the resource for their individual choice activities.
Options include:
✅ Creating a video or skit.
✅ Creating a poster
✅ PowerPoint Lesson
✅ Social Media post
✅ Designing an experiment
✅ Rap or poem
✅ and more!
